The Zegul Bara 17/2 is new to to our line of performance touring kayak for the 2018 season and is the mid-sized boat in the series that includes the smaller Nuka GT 16/7 and larger Empower 18/3. The Bara is designed with the perfect blend of the classic Brit-style shape with the snug-fitting, ultra-stylish Danish flare found in the Arrow brand of kayaks from Zegul.

Designed to best satisfy performance oriented paddlers in the 155 to 210 lbs paddling weight range, we feel the Bara fits in perfectly with our line of Zegul and Arrow kayaks. Intermediate and advanced paddlers will love this craft, while it will inspire dedicated newcomers to achieve.

PADDLER FIT

As in most European designs ‘simplicity rules’, which means don’t expect the ultra-cushy seat with lots of adjustments found in many North American boats. Instead, expect a well-thought, robust, but Spartan seat system that thankfully has everything correctly placed. The additional width of the Zegul Bara provides easy access for medium- to large-sized paddlers, yet the deck height is still low enough as not to interfere with a high angle paddle stroke. A contour back band provides almost perfect support and allows a full range of motion. Multi adjustable thighbraces and combined with the easily adjustable foot braces provide the ‘perfect contact points’ required for rapid skills progression.

The Zegul Bara features a multi-adjustable back rest to further improve the paddler’s fit. The back rest is manually adjusted using a nut & bolt system that offers virtually unlimited customization. It takes some time to hone in your perfect fit and the back rest cannot be adjusted on the water. However, once you’ve got it placed exactly where it’s needed, you’ll appreciate the comfort that’s provided!

KAYAK EFFICIENCY & MANEUVERABILITY

With its longer length, the Zegul Bara has improved glide over the Nuka GT while providing the same quick acceleration. The Bara has optimized efficiency by combining sharp entry points with a raking bow and stern to maximize the waterline. Similar to most kayaks, slight weather-cocking can be expected in adverse conditions but is quickly eliminated by simply deploying the skeg. The hull is slightly rounded for less resistance and less wet surface. The kayaks rocker is marginally less than ‘moderate’ and utilizes hard chine sides for solid edging and extremely nimble turns.

KAYAK STABILITY

As a performance kayak with a slightly round hull, the Zegul Bara purposely forsakes a degree of initial stability to optimize maneuverability. Transitions from edge to edge are done seamlessly for quick turns and hard chine sides provide solid secondary stability.

KAYAK ROLL & RESCUE

Entry and exit can be done easily with a little practice and the flat rear deck of the Zegul Bara make a great platform for self and assisted rescues. Great contact points and the low rear deck make layback rolls a snap!

KAYAK TOURING

The Zegul Bara accelerates to a touring pace quickly and its deck is low enough as not in interfere with paddle strokes. The four lightweight Kayak Sport Hatches click-on and off easily and the ‘mini’ foredeck hatch is handy for electronics and personal items. Recessed deck and perimeter lines are well positioned

Hatches: The Zegul Bara 17/2 has a whopping 4 VCP style Kayak Sport rubber hatch covers that are easy to use & are extremely watertight.
Bow: round 10″ / 24 cm, Stern: oval 17″ x 10.25″ / 44 x 26 cm, Day: round 8” / 20 cm , Mini-bow pod: 6” / 15 cm and 4 composite bulkheads with fibreglass seams.

Outfitting: Cockpit includes a multi-adjustable back band, seat pan, and integrated composite / padded thigh braces

MATERIAL LAY-UP STOCKED

3D C-Core Lay-up Construction- Weight 39 lbs:
Kayaks built with this method are finished with a clear carbon hull with Stainless steel interweave. Carbon fabric is utilized to provide an even tougher & stiffer kayak. This production method combines vacuum technology with the highest quality epoxy resin and several types of carbon fiber, Carbon/aramide, and glass multiaxial fabrics. These kayaks are the highest quality carbon core built kayaks in the industry. All Zegul 3D C-Core kayaks are built using full HD LRA core lay-up in the hulls. Decks are built using sandwich construction and are reinforced with carbon/aramide technology and fused with a Kevlar seam.
