Zegul Kayaks Greenland T 17/8.5 Kayak Review

Breathtakingly beautiful, Zegul Kayaks Greenland T is one of the most well recognized kayaks on the planet!

Johan Wirsen, a prolific European designer, crafted Zegul's Greenland series to be true to heritage with classic lines closely replicating Inuit / Aleut peoples’ original ‘skin-on-frame’ designs.

The Greenland T kayak is the mid-sized boat in Zegul's family of Greenland kayaks which includes the smaller Greenland 17/7 and much larger Greenland GT 17/10.

At a glance the Greenland T looks almost identical to its smaller 17/7 sibling, but a few significant differences exist between the two kayaks.

The most eye-striking difference is the T's much larger keyhole style cockpit. It is also a full 1.25 inches wider and is slightly deeper than the 17/7 - the end result is that the Greenland T accepts a larger paddler fit range.

Our paddle team experts found the T satisfies a wide range of medium- to large-sized paddlers between 140 to 200 lbs. The keyhole cockpit and multi-adjustable thigh-braces optimize the one-with-boat fit sought for enhanced boat control and kayak paddling skills refinement

Having more volume than the smaller Greenland 17/7, the Zegul Greenland T has a touch more gear capacity - given it's a true Greenland-style kayak, storage space is lacking when compared to higher volume British and North American design.

In 2017 the Greenland T was upgraded with a multi-adjustable back rest to further improve the paddler’s fit. The back rest is manually adjusted using a nut and bolt system that offers virtually unlimited customization. It takes some time to hone in your perfect fit and the back rest cannot be adjusted on the water. However, once you’ve got it placed exactly where it’s needed, you’ll appreciate the comfort that’s provided!

Strikingly beautiful, Zegul Kayak's build quality is considered the industry's best. One look at their 3D C-Core's glittering Carbon/Kevlar Coaxle weave at the mid-ship, and you'll understand why the Greenland T is a sought after boat by paddlers worldwide.

Incredibly fast, Zegul's Greenland kayaks are the most efficient boats we have ever carried in our 36+ years in paddlesports.

Quiet and unobtrusive, Zegul's Greenland T effortlessly slices through water like a hot knife carves through butter. Incredibly agile to paddle, the hull’s slight rocker and hard chine provide a surprisingly stable platform for nimble maneuvers and responsive edging.

The T's ultra-low sheer line is also virtually unaffected by adverse weather conditions, and the feeling of being so close to the water is simply inspiring. The crafts long, narrow, sleek form combines with a moderate vee hull for razor sharp tracking.

The Greenland T's extremely low deck heights both forward and aft enable effortless lay-back and forward rolls and provides closer than normal encounters with nature.

"Handcrafted to reflect its heritage, Zegul Kayaks Greenland T closely replicates Aleutian peoples’ original skin-on-frame designs. Small and medium sized Greenland-style purist's love its inspiring performance in rough and windy conditions."

Originally created by the Inuit for hunting and stealth, skilled paddlers have long since embraced Greenland kayaks as play boats and rolling machines. More recently, Greenland boats are increasingly entering the main stream market due to their incredible efficiency and stunning beauty.

The Zegul Greenland T offers the ultimate choice – paddlers can combine easy Greenland style rolls and paddling techniques with the very latest advancements in lightweight composite materials and manufacturing processes.
